Do not talk about illegal software or distributing it.  Piratebay is the place for that.  Search for Hypercam or Fraps there.

EVERYBODY IS DOING IT! @.@ You should too.

EDIT: No posts (or PMs!) with links to piracy/warez sites or downloads. (legal requirement, not our choice)

Incorrect, we are not allowed to share LINKS to pirated software. We can talk about it all we want, though.

But yes, head to thepiratebay...cough...dot....org...cough who said that?

You guys are all wrong.

We can't provide DIRECT links to software downloads. If you want to link to a TPB page, go for it. You just can't link directly to the .torrent file.

The following is what IS allowed to post:

http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4050438/Fraps_2.9.4_Registered_-_enjoy

http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5213189/Fraps_3.0.3

Those links can probably help you out in your free fraps needs. Don't know if the 2nd link (for 3.0.3) is cracked though.

You just can't link to a rapidshare/etc.-style download that has that stuff. You can link to a page that has those links in it (such as pasting the URL in a pastebin site), but you can't link it directly on here due to our host's ToS.

OH and as an FYI, the written rules about this were a bit outdated. I've updated them to reflect what our ACTUAL stance on it is.

The new rules states:

No posts (or PMs!) with DIRECT links to piracy/warez downloads. (you can link pages on torrent trackers, such as The Pirate Bay, but you can't link the .torrent file itself or a rapidshare/etc.-style download)

Could you clarify, what is backseating?
I think a sticky list of e-terms would be awesome, btw.

Backseat moderating is a well known forum term, we don't need a sticky to explain what people should already know.

The bottom line of it is that if you're acting like a mod (telling members what the can/cannot do), threatening suspensions, doing constant "Request lock" posts, etc., you're backseat moderating. It's the same as backseat driving, where you as a passenger are telling the driver what to do.

Rule of thumb: don't tell people what to do and don't act like you have authority when you don't. Mods read the threads... if someone is breaking the rules, we'll deal with it. We therefore DO NOT want members to constantly act like they are enforcing our rules.

Informing other members of the rules or giving general advice is one thing, acting like you're in an authority position is another.

I don't understand how requesting a lock is considered backseat moderating

Because mod's dont request locks, they either do it or they don't, correct? Can I get a clarification please?

Because we don't want you doing it. It's not up to you to request a lock... if a mod sees a lock being appropriate, they will do it. It's INCREDIBLY annoying to see those "requests" since in doing so you are trying to undermine our authority. That may not be your intention, but it's what it does.

Well that's not really, backseating a moderator is it? It's just an annoying member right? (I'll continue this in Donator chat so it doesnt spam blind's post)

Stop arguing with me Nighbane. I've responded more completely in your other thread about it.
